Myths and Facts

Introduction to this review page: We really like the Myths & Facts section of the Home Buyer's and Seller's Guide to Radon. Here's a summary of what's in the guide.(To view the Facts, turn on javascript of adjust your browser settings.)

Fact: Nope. There are really no Radon Deniers. It's a fact of physics that radioactive particles can damage biological tissue, if the dosage is high enough. Although some toxicologists dispute the level of Radon that might cause cancer, all seem to agree that the problem is all in the dose and there is a dosage that increases the chance of cancers.

Fact: As the EPA states, Radon testing really is easy. You can DIY with a Radon Testing Kit or hire a qualified Radon testing company.

Fact: The EPA encourages homeowners that there are solutions to Radon problems in homes, and that is the whole purpose of the EPA Radon guide. Most homes can be fixed for about the same cost as other common home repairs, and a Web search of your state Radon office can provide a list of qualified mitigation contractors.

There are many more helpful Myths & Facts in the EPA Guide. We just selected a few to summarize and add Lake Tahoe specifics. We really like the Myths & Facts section of the guide.
