A bit of song history: The Ploughman is a traditional song, and the version we sing today was gussied up a bit by Robert Burns. There are many versions of this tune found in song collections such as as the Orpheus Caledonius (1733); Herd's MS. (1765- 76); The Perth Musical Miscellany (1786); Scots Musical Museum (1788); and The Merry Muses of Caledonia (c.1800). During the new folk boom in the 80's and 90's many folk bands recorded and popularized The Ploughman.
The Ploughman appears on Gairin's album Ramblin' Irishman. Listen to Gairin's entire album on Soundcloud.
